Our first full day in Malawi was spent in an orphanage for babies up to 2 years in age. Most babies were either abandoned or the mother died in childbirth. One baby was rescued from a remote village after the mother died in childbirth. The villagers were convinced the baby caused the mothers death and were ready to bury the baby alive with the mother.

What happens to these children after age 2? So they adopt them out to people in other countries?

Some go back to their original families. Others are adopted by a Malawi family (other than Madonna, foreigners are not allowed to adopt Malawi children). Others move on to an orphanage for older children.
I can't even imagine it. Makes me so grateful for where we live and so sorry for those poor babies...
Awww. We really have no concept of how blessed we really are.
We should be thankful of how we live.
